5 and 6 year olds explain Valentine's Day

I'm really happy with the way this video turned out. T, our five year old (the one with the full answer about Cupid in the video), is pretty chatty. In fact, sometimes he goes around saying, "I'm a chatterbox!" I've thought for a while that it would be fun to film some other kids about the same age and see what they come up with. It definitely was fun. It was hard for me to keep from cracking up with some of their answers. Huge thanks to the kids (and their parents!) for being willing to help out with this!

George Snow and the sinking of the Nelson B

I had the opportunity this past fall to spend some time with George Snow and record him telling the story of the night the lumber ship the Nelson B sank off of Port Maitland in 1967. George is now 91 but at the time of the sinking was both a fisherman and an MLA  in the Nova Scotia government. His boat was the first to reach the lifeboats and they were able to rescue all the crew. It is quite a story and this was a fun project to be a part of. You can see the project that this video was a part of here.  And you can read some more detail in a recent story published in the Yarmouth Vanguard here.

Family Literacy Videos

Last year I had the opportunity to work with L'Équipe alphabétisation-Nouvelle-Écosse to create some videos promoting family literacy. Reading has always been a big part of my life (My most recent favourite book is Let the Great World Spin by Colum McCann. And if Indian Horse doesn't win this year, I'll never listen to Canada Reads again. Probably.) , thanks to my parents' encouragement. They pretty much embodied the principles in these videos. I'm also really pleased that our boys are so into books. T asks to be read to constantly (I'm pretty tired of Lowly Worm and Curious George right now) and P is already devouring novels. All that to say this project was very fun for me to work on. Everyone I worked with at L'Équipe were phenomenal and all the families in the videos were amazing. The first two are in French and the third is Bilingual. If you keep scrolling down there are also English versions of the first two.
